Why not a Victory sportbike?

Since they are already have everything to make motorcycles, why doesn't Victory/Polaris consider getting into the American sportbike scene and maybe can do more than Buell has.

Americans want sportbikes just as much as chromed out cruisers, so I don't know why these American motorcycle companies don't offer anything except cruisers.|||Good points in above answers...

I would also add that it probably would not be profitable for them. It would take so much time and money in research and development to design a bike from scratch that could compete with todays sport bikes. If they wanted to produce a serious contender, only a select few could afford it.

buell is making some great bikes these days, but does anyone remember their first efforts and how they compared to the competition?

there is an American company making a beautiful sport bike, with top of the line components, but it comes with a price of 50 grand.

but hey, who knows, with harley buying mv agusta, what possibilities may lie down the road.|||Give them time Pony and they may well. However at present they are stuck with that rather ugly touring contraption. Runs great, looks like a shoe box w wheels.|||do ya think there is room in the marketplace for another sportbike? even the Harley clones are going out of business.when was the last time you saw a Titan? The economy isnt very good and lets face it the Japanese companies are VERY VERY good at making fast, reliable machines. However with the price of gas going through the roof look for a lot more scooters to on the road.|||Japan has had 30 years to engineer their water cooled in-line 4's and V 4's into fire breathing rocket engines.

I would be happy to see Victory give it a better go than Buell has, but I think the money involved to build something real is too steep to do from scratch.|||You don't just retool overnight and start making a different style of bike. It's a major investment to take on something like that, especially if it doesn't pay off (V-rod?). Besides, Victory doesn't have all the bugs worked out on what they do make.
